Wilmington Police arrest multiple people after Darlington Ave. shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department has arrested multiple individuals following a shooting that occurred early last week on Darlington Avenue.

Around 5:00 p.m. on October 21st, WPD units responded to a ShotSpotter alert. When officers arrived, they determined that two individuals had been shot at while walking in the area. The subjects fled on foot, and a stolen firearm was dropped.

Investigators initially identified one of the subjects, and on October 24th, with the assistance of the Cape Fear Regional SWAT Team, a search warrant was executed in the 100 block of Spring Avenue. As a result of that operation,  20, of Wilmington was charged with Resist/Delay/Obstruct Public Officers and was given a $1,200 secured bond.

Additionally, on October 31st, officers arrested Zymond Johnson, 18. He has been charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

During the investigation, detectives also identified a 14-year-old suspect who is responsible for firing a gun. The juvenile is facing several charges including:

  • Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill

  • Felony Carrying a Concealed Weapon-Gun

  • Possession of a Handgun by a Minor

  • Discharging a Firearm in City Limits

The firearm used in the shooting has been recovered. The investigation remains ongoing.
