WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Saturday, Cape Fear Community College will conduct an active shooter simulation in conjunction with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

The exercise will take place at CFCC’s downtown campus from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. causing road closures to ensure safety. Front Street will be closed from Walnut Street to Hanover Street, and Red Cross Street will be closed from Water Street to 2nd Street.

Training activities will take place in CFCC’s N, A, S, Union Station, and the Dan & Sheila Saklad Health and Human Services buildings. During this time, members of the public may hear simulated gunfire and see law enforcement officers crossing Front Street and entering buildings as part of the scenario.

To enhance emergency preparedness as part of the exercise, CFCC’s Nursing and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) departments will conduct a coordinated mass casualty simulation.

As part of this training, mock patients will be transported from the A Building to both Union Station and the HHS Building, where students and faculty will simulate two hospital emergency rooms and operating rooms.
