Bennett’s header in closing seconds gives New Hanover 3-2 OT win over Ashley to advance

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Late drama resulted in New Hanover coming out on top over intra-city rival Ashley on the road Thursday in the Class 7A boys soccer quarterfinals.
Fisher Manning scored late in regulation to pull the Wildcats even 2-2.
With three seconds remaining in the final overtime period, Tre Bennett headed in the winning goal to close out the game.
“Feels great,” Bennett said. “It’s my first time, I’m a junior. The first time in a really long time. I’m excited for it and just got to go give it our all.”
New Hanover will host Chapel Hill on Tuesday with the winner going to Greensboro to play for a state championship.
