Recount leaves Southport and Boiling Spring Lakes outcomes unchanged

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY-TV) – Results for two Brunswick County elections were recounted on Friday.

The Brunswick County Board of Elections recounted results for Boiling Spring Lakes Commissioner and Southport Alderman Ward 1. In Boiling Spring Lakes, candidate Erinie Siriana requested a recount after receiving seven less votes than Todd Ausborn for commissioner. There was no change in the recount today.

However, in the Southport Alderman Ward 1 contest, two candidates lost a vote today. When the Board of Elections scanned all the ballots today, the scanner did not register a vote for Mike Crosbie or a vote for David Miller, so the winners in this race did not change.

The winners are Karen Mosteller and Robert Carroll.

Board of Elections director, Sara LaVere said the recount showed the importance of every vote cast.

The biggest thing to note is that municipal elections because of the smaller number of voters compared to a county wide or statewide election they can be won by just a few votes,” LaVere said.

Following Friday’s vote canvass, candidates can request a recount before the deadline on Monday at 5 p.m.
