WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man was sentenced to 7 to 12 years in prison after admitting to two robberies on the same day in the summer of 2024.

54-year-old Kevin Wade pled guilty to two common law robberies in Superior Court where he was sentenced as a habitual felon. Wade was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims.

According to the DA’s office, just before 5 p.m. on July 21st, 2024, Wade entered Bottega Art and Wine. After his card declined, Wade went behind the counter and demanded the bartender open the cash register, grabbing at his side insisting he had a weapon.

Before fleeing and while caught on camera, Wade stole $250 in cash and the bartender’s iPhone.

The victim was able to track her phone to an area of Campbell Street where a resident was able to provide the Wilmington Police Department with footage of Wade getting out of his car wearing the same clothes from the robbery.

On the same day, shortly before 9 p.m., Wade was caught on surveillance footage at the Walgreen located at 5900 Carolina Beach Road. Wade approached the cashier with a nutcracker in his hand and asked for a drink. He demanded the cashier to open the register and poked the cashier with the nutcracker before taking money out of the drawer.

The next day, the Wilmington Police Department conducted a traffic stop where Wade was in the passenger seat and placed under arrest.

Wade’s criminal record included prior convictions for common law robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, breaking and entering, larceny, embezzlement, and assault.
