Friends out of the hospital following kidney transplant

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — We have an update to a health story we’ve been following.

Last week, we told you about 28-year-old Sydney Mathis, from Castle Hayne.

Sydney left the hospital after a successful kidney transplant.

After years of struggling with Polycystic Kidney Disease, losing both kidneys and a multitude of dialysis treatments, Sydney was in need of a living donor kidney transplant.

Her friend Stephanie Daniels was a match, and the two went in for surgery last week at Atrium Health in Charlotte.

Stephanie has been released from the hospital as well.

Both friends are recuperating this week at an Air BnB in Charlotte and undergoing follow up tests. Both hope to be home in the Cape Fear for Thanksgiving.
