Three Topsail High School students to perform in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Three Topsail High School students have earned a spot in one of the nation’s most iconic holiday traditions.

Reese Balbuena who is in the colorguard, Bryce Hughes who plays the cymbals, and flutist Natalie Corbett have been selected to perform with the Macy’s Great American Marching Band during the Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

On Saturday, the students left for the Big Apple to take part in rehearsals with top musicians and performers across the country.

Pender County Schools says their selection is a reflection of hard work, discipline, and dedication within the music program.

Band Director Jake Wentzek says the honor is well deserved. “Performing in the Macy’s Parade is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and these students earned it through countless hours of practice and commitment,” Wentzek said. “We’re incredibly proud to have them represent Topsail High and Pender County Schools on a national stage. It’s a moment they’ll never forget.”
