Hoggard’s season ends to Millbrook 14-7 in state semifinals

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — A battle of undefeated teams did not go the way of Hoggard football as they lost at home 14-7 against Millbrook on Friday in the Class 8A East Regional Championship.
The Vikings scored what would be their only touchdown of the game on their opening possession. After converting multiple third down and longs, Matthew Boring threw a touchdown pass to Desyn Durand to take a 7-0 lead.
Hoggard then caught several breaks on special teams in the 2nd quarter. Millbrook missed a 20-yard field goal and a Vikings muffed punt recovered by the Wildcats was called back on an illegal formation penalty.
After tying the game in the 3rd quarter, Brilison McCullers of Millbrook scored a rushing touchdown to push the visitors ahead. It would prove to be the winning score.
Hoggard was seeking to make the state championship game for the second time in three years.
