Wilmington ranked as best mid-sized city for alternative jobs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– A new study says Wilmington has what it takes to have a thriving employment center. In a newly provided study by Commercial Search, it shows Wilmington to be the number one mid-sized city for people seeking alternative jobs.

The Port City beat out other mid-sized cities like West Palm Beach, Salt Lake City, and Bellevue Washington, outside Seattle. Beyond tourism, Wilmington has an influx of tech, finance, health care, and even film production.

Business Researcher, Doug Ressler, says the ranking is based on multiple metrics showing positives signs for the port city.

“It’s not in just one asset class. Wilmington has strong fundamentals for office, it has low vacancies, steady rents, high conservative growth, high demand of multifamily, stability, and new deliveries, even though they’re slowing. It has a diversified investment portfolio,” said Ressler.

According to the data, household income in Wilmington rose by more than 50-percent over the past five years. The city placed third among the top twenty locations for growth of employment-to-population ratio. In the study, Wilmington also showed a cost-of-living index that is three percent below the national average.
