Wilmington man pleads guilty after killing his own family members

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– 44-year-old Wilbert Lamont Robinson of Hampstead was guided into New Hanover Superior Court by wheelchair on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. In January of 2022, he shot his mother, sister, and child inside a car at the Landfall shopping center on military cutoff road in Wilmington. He also shot himself and was taken to the hospital.

Inside the courthouse on Wednesday, with emotional relatives in attendance, an attorney for Robinson said — at the time of the killings — he didn’t know he killed his family members. During his sentencing, Robinson received at least 20 years in prison — per charged against him.
