Jimmy’s bar hosts annual bike drive to donate bikes to children in need
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — Jimmy’s bar in Wrightsville Beach hosted a bike drive to donate new bikes to children in need, and the new wheels rolled out in droves.
This year was the eighth year of Jimmy’s bike drive.
All the bikes that were donated will be given to schools, charities, and children’s homes.
Owner of Jimmy’s, Jimmy Gilleece, says the drive is for bikes specifically because it can be a child’s first taste of adventure, and that this year was the largest yet.
“It’s grown tremendously. This year we were able to raise, you know, close to 1,800 bikes so far for 65 different charities across the state,” said Gilleece.
Gilleece says this year was so large, it expanded into Louisiana, with around 300 bikes being passed out to children there, thanks to a collaboration with the Duck Commander and Duck Dynasty crew.
