Local ‘Saint Nick’ spreads Christmas cheer by raising donations for elderly residents

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — Saint Nick is raising donations for elderly members of the community this Christmas. 

The Saint Nicholas Christmas Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides Christmas gifts to residents of assisted living without family in Brunswick and surrounding counties. 

 Wish lists are posted on the organization’s website, and the community comes through with donations to make sure assisted living residents have some extra Christmas joy. 

 Founder of the organization, Nicholas Newell, was born on Christmas and decided to make himself Saint Nick. 

 He says that his birthday is about helping other people.  

“Now my birthday gets to be a day about helping other people. I think it’s cool to take something that’s unique to me and use it in a way that I can capitalize on it to help others,” said Newell.
