Wilmington Police respond to report of shooter at Walmart, no threat to the public found

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police responded Wednesday morning to a reported active shooter at a Walmart on Sigmon Road, but investigators say there was no threat to the public.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers were called to the Walmart at 5226 Sigmon Road around 8:20 a.m. after someone called 911 reporting an active shooter.
Law enforcement cleared the store.
The store remains open following the investigation.
Police also said they have increased their presence around area stores and will continue to maintain heightened patrols throughout the holiday season.
