Post-holiday shoppers pack Mayfair as ‘Returnuary’ begins

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) – Mayfair Town Center was packed on Friday with post-holiday shoppers and some were returning their Christmas gifts.

The month after Christmas has often been referred to as “Returnuary.” The National Retail Federation reports an estimated 17% of holiday purchases will be sent back after the holiday.

Many retailers have reported extending return windows to help customers. Jake Register, a stylist at Wrightsville Avenue Boutique said while business has been slower after the holiday, he does expect more returns in the coming days.

“No returns yet which is great because this is like national Christmas return day of the year,” Register said. “But everybody is in good spirits which makes me happy.”

Many Shoppers at Mayfair were also catching post-holiday deals. Shops such as Wrightsville Avenue Boutique were offering 30% off their merchandise.
