WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington, GLOW Academy, announced that they have been granted a ten-year charter renewal from the NC Charter School Review Board. A 10-year renewal is the longest renewal period a charter school can receive.

The renewal also marks a milestone moment for GLOW Academy, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary of empowering girls through rigorous academics, leadership development, and a mission-driven, whole-girl, community-centered approach to education.

“Receiving a ten-year charter renewal is a resounding endorsement and a reflection of the incredible work of our teachers and staff, our students and their families, and the support of our community,” said Sara Izad, School Board Chair. “As we celebrate ten years of GLOW, we are proud of how far we’ve come and remain deeply committed to our mission.”

In 2021, GLOW Academy was most recently renewed for a five-year term.

GLOW Academy opened in 2016 and reminds the state’s only single-gender public school. They say for the past two years, they’ve ranked in the top 25 percent of schools in the state for academic growth.

To celebrate their 10-year anniversary, GLOW Academy will host a Founders Day Celebration and Birthday Party on February 13th.
