Concrete spill, excavator trailer involved in two-truck crash on Highway 117

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — According to NC Highway Patrol, before 5 p.m. Monday evening there was a crash near the New Hanover County and Pender County line on Highway 117.

A Dodge Truck carrying cement was traveling north and a truck pulling a trailer and excavator was traveling south.

The truck in traveling north ran off the road to the right, over corrected and went over the center line hitting the truck coming in the other direction. Both trucks ended up on the southbound shoulder.

Chevy Truck pulling a trailer and excavator was blocking the road and the north bound truck had left numerous bags of concrete on the southbound shoulder.

There were two people in each truck.

Pender EMS responded to the incident and minor injuries were reported.

18-year-old Jose Guadalupe Villeda Acuna was driving the Dodge Truck and was charged with lane violation, driving left of the center.

NC DOT supervised cleanup and repaired the damages to the roadway.
