South Columbus names Jake Fonvielle head football coach, his 2nd stint with Stallions

TABOR CITY, N.C. (WWAY) — One area football program has filled its vacant head coaching position with a familiar face.
South Columbus announced that Jake Fonvielle will be the next leader of the Stallions. He was previously their head coach from 2009-13.
Fonvielle is a graduate of South Columbus and has always been near the program for most seasons since 2001. He most recently served as an offensive analyst in 2025.
WWAY spoke to Fonvielle on Tuesday, who said he is glad to be leading the athletes following a pretty good run. The Stallions are coming off back-to-back winning seasons and were named co-champions of the Southeastern Conference last year.
Fonvielle takes over for Russell Dove, who stepped down in November.
Other area football teams still in need of a new head coach include Laney, Ashley and Topsail.
