Heat for the Holidays: Bolivia woman wins new HVAC system

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — As temperatures get colder during the winter months, having a warm home can be important. We’ll introduce you to this year’s winner for Heat for the Holidays.

“This year’s winner of the heat for the holidays is Catherine Walksoz of Bolivia, and was nominated by her friend and neighbor, Lori Cornwell. And this is what she wrote. She is a disabled elderly lady who lives alone. Her only income is her social security. Her husband had Alzheimer’s, and she was his sole in-home care provider until he passed away several years ago. It would be an answered prayer if you could help the sweet, deserving lady,” Melanie Turner said.
“Congratulations,” everyone exclaimed!
“Hi, I’m Tomika Jackson, GMC morning anchor, and I am here today to surprise our 2025 Heat for the Holidays winner sponsored by Fulford Heating and Cooling, Adam Slack CrossCountry Mortgage, American Standard Heating and Air and Cotton Electric. Come go with us to give our recipient the gift of warmth. Let’s go. Yeah,” Tomika said.
“Is there a Miss Katherine? Yes. Would that be you, Miss Katherine? Happy holidays to you. You are our 2025 heat for the holiday’s winner,” Tomika said to Walksov.
“Today is your day that you are going to have heat from this day forward. Congratulations to you,” Tomika said.
“You have no idea how much it means to me because I’m on Social Security and I can’t. I can’t afford anything like that. So. And it’s only me and my dog,” Walksoz said.
“This is when we get to have the good, warm, fuzzy feeling. It’s giving something back to a community member in the neighborhood and helping them in the holiday season. It’s just exciting. It’s what our family’s always done. Our company’s done for the community because we’ve tried a lot of different things within the community, a lot of help where we can. And this is a very exciting time of the year,” Justin Fulford with Fulford Heating and Cooling shared.
This marked the 14th annual Heat for the Holidays at WWAY.
