New Hanover County opens new facility to aid prisoners in transitioning back into the community
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — New Hanover County hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, Jan. 21, for a new facility intended to aid prisoners in their transition back into the community.
The New Hanover Star Center is located at 1605 Robin Hood Road, in Wilmington. The new facility is in the same spot as The Harbor, which was a detox and drug rehabilitation center before closing in 2022.
Since the closure, the building has underwent more than four-million dollars in renovations.
It is the counties only facility providing medically-assisted detox, behavioral health services, and sober-living housing.
The 14-thousand square foot complex houses 16 in-patient beds, and a two-bed transitional housing unit.
The renovations are expected to help clients feel more comfortable while transitioning.
