City of Wilmington encourages residents to prepare for bitter cold and potential winter weather

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In a social media post, the City of Wilmington encouraged residents to pay attention to the forecast and prepare for potential winter weather.
Temperatures over the weekend are expected to be in the teens with single digit wind chills forecasted. There is also a Winter Storm Watch with the potential of leaving snow in the Cape Fear.
The city says that now is a good time to start preparations. In order to prepare, check your emergency supplies, protect outdoor pipes from freezing, bring your pets inside, check on neighbors who may need assistance, plan travel early, keep phones charged, and sign up for local weather alerts.
City crews put brine on the roadways Thursday morning.
For those looking to go sledding if snow accumulates, the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course is asking people not to sled on the greens.
