Lynch leads Laney to 51-38 win at New Hanover

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Following the dismissal of head girls basketball coach Cherry Woodbury, Laney Athletic Director led the team to victory from the bench 51-38 at New Hanover Tuesday.

The game was back and forth throughout the first half, but the Bucs later built a double-digit lead in the 3rd quarter before coasting to victory at the end.

Lynch confirmed earlier this week that he was taking over the role for “personnel” reasons following the dismissal of Woodbury. The reason for the change was not disclosed.

WWAY reached out to Woodbury who said she is “wishing the best for the girls and hoping the have a strong finish to their season.” Family members of Laney players say they supported the coaching change with one calling it the “right decision.”
