The Endowment’s board appoints new president and CEO

NEW HANOVER, N.C. (WWAY) — The Endowment, also known as The New Hanover Community Endowment, is welcoming a new president and CEO.
Sophie Dagenais will serve as president and CEO of the organization. Dagenais previously served as interim president and CEO, providing continuity of leadership and supporting the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Sophie Dagenais as The Endowment’s new President and CEO. The Board’s decision reflects our shared commitment to strong leadership and our confidence and excitement about The Endowment’s future.” said Shannon Winslow, Board Chair of The Endowment.
Dan Winslow, The Endowment’s former president, resigned in 2025 due to personal reasons.
The organization says Dagenais has guided the group through a period of continued progress, prioritizing data-drive analysis, strategic partnerships, and disciplined investments aligned across each of the organization’s strategic pillars. Her leadership has reinforced The Endowment’s approach to identifying opportunities that move the needle on the most pressing needs in New Hanover County.
“The Endowment’s vision, values, and commitment to impact are not changing,” said Dagenais. “I’m grateful for the Board’s confidence and support, and for the talented team that makes this work possible. Together, we will continue to strengthen our partnerships, apply rigorous analysis to our decisions, and invest in solutions that benefit all of New Hanover County. We are still early in out history, and I am honored to help shape our next chapter carefully, and thoughtfully, in service to the community we have been called to serve.”
