Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity announces new mixed-income development off Sidbury Road

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity announced on Friday the purchase of land for their first mixed-income development.
The announcement came at their Golden Hammer Breakfast that 30-acres of land near Sidbury Road and Buck Drive will be used for the development.
The project is expected to include 150 to 200 housing units consisting of traditional Habitat homes and market-rate homes and multi-family units.
“We look forward to building a thriving community where individuals and families can build generational wealth and a community,” said Marlowe Foster, Cape Fear Habitat President & CEO. “This development will become far more than a place to call home – it will be a place where hope is nurtured, opportunity grows, and a stronger, more resilient community will flourish.”
According to the press release, more than 22.5 million renters nationwide now spend over 30% of their income on housing.
Habitat for Humanity says that having mixed-income developments strengthen labor markets by ensuring essential workers can live near employment centers.
