Experts highlight AI, robotics and future of neurosciences at Novant Symposium
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY-TV) – Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center held its inaugural neuroscience symposium Thursday and Friday.
The event was hosted at the Holiday Inn Resort Lumina in Wrightsville Beach. Regional experts discussed recent advancements in neurological care, research and patient outcomes.
Jeffrey Beecher, director of neuroscience at Novant said the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence are some of the major advancement the institute is beginning to utilize.
He said AI and robotic technology will one day allow them to do a procedure remotely.
“We’re going to be able to have systems that we can control with our expertise and be able to do a procedure at an outlying facility that maybe doesn’t have the same level of acuity but for a time sensitive illness like a stroke that is a big deal,” Beecher said.
The symposium also celebrated the recent $10 million gift from Michael Jordan which Novant Health said will further their institute’s neuroscience research and access to care.
