One in custody after reported armed robbery in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police say one person is in custody following a reported armed robbery Sunday evening.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded around 6:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Saint Andrews Drive after a robbery was reported.

Police said officers set up a perimeter and began searching for the suspect with the help of K9 Kraken.

Authorities said the suspect was eventually located and taken into custody.

Police identified the man as Zion Roland, 24, of Wilmington. He has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Roland is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

In 2019, Roland pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill for shooting at a man near 30th and Princess Place Drive.  He received a suspended sentence and probation at the time.
