Deputy shot in vest, suspect wounded during attempted arrest in Bladen County

WHITE OAK, NC (WWAY) — An anonymous tip about a wanted suspect led to an officer-involved shooting in Bladen County early Friday morning.
According to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the Bladen County 911 Call Center received a report around 7:40 a.m. identifying a person with multiple outstanding warrants in the area of the 600 block of Pine Acres Road in White Oak.
During the arrest, authorities say a confrontation and struggle occurred, and shots were fired.
A deputy was struck in the vest during the exchange. Deputies returned fire, hitting the suspect.
The sheriff’s office says neither the deputy nor the suspect suffered life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been called in and will take over the criminal investigation. The District Attorney’s Office has also been notified.
The deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duty pending a review of the incident.
