Travel back in time to 1766 at the Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site
WINNABOW, NC (WWAY)– Feeling Patriotic? Well, you should be!
This weekend kicked off the inaugural North Carolina First in Freedom Festival all throughout the Cape Fear Region.
At the Brunswick Town Fort Anderson State Historic Site in Winnabow, a living history event was held with interpreters portraying figures from the Stamp Act resistance.
Over 100 participants visited the Historic Site to see what it was like in 1766 and see the amazing history in Brunswick County.
Jim McKee, site manager for Brunswick Town Fort Anderson State Historic Site, says everyone should go out and learn more about local history.
“You never know what happened in your backyard until you go out and explore. For example, most people don’t know that Brunswick was the capital of North Carolina, prior to 1770,” said McKee. “Most people don’t even know about the Stamp Act.”
On February 27th, a battle commemoration program will be hosted at Moores Creek National Battlefield, Currie, NC. The program will recreate the historic Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, highlighting a significant event in the country’s history.
