Identity released in fatal Market Street bicycle crash

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police have released the identity of the bicyclist who died following a crash on Market Street.

Authorities say 65-year-old Wesley McCormick was struck in the 6900 block of Market Street just before 4:30 p.m. Friday. He sustained life-threatening injuries and later died.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the bicycle failed to yield to traffic and collided with a pickup truck. No charges have been filed at this time.

The department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate.
