Pender Co. residents turn in unused pesticides at free disposal event

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY-TV) — In Pender County, residents were discarding unwanted and unused pesticides at a free disposal event on Wednesday.

The event was hosted by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in Burgaw. Nearly all pesticide products were accepted including insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in their original containers.

Jeremy Maciejawski, pesticide disposal specialist said they host these free event every two years in Pender County and its important for residents and farmers to get rid of unused pesticides.

“It could fall off the shelf, it could crack, so you want to use it for what it’s intended for not for collecting dust, just like all our stuff at home,” said Maciejewski.

A pesticide disposal event will be hosted in Robeson County on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
