BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Drivers in Brunswick County should expect lane closures on Interstate 140 as a construction project resumes next week.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, contractors will begin daily lane closures starting March 9 on a six-mile stretch of I-140 between U.S. Route 17 and U.S. Route 74 near Leland.

Crews will continue work on a project that began last year to upgrade the roadway. Planned improvements include milling and resurfacing, installing rumble strips, updating pavement markings, improving guardrails, and rehabilitating bridges along both the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Transportation officials say one lane in each direction will remain open during the closures to allow traffic to continue moving through the area.

The work is expected to continue for several weeks, with the project scheduled to be completed and the road fully reopened by early May.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert in the work zone, and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.
