WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) —  The UNCW men’s basketball program will continue to be under the guidance of longtime coach, Takayo Siddle.

Rumors began swirling late last week, until Coach Siddle himself confirmed the new deal during the postgame press conference after the Seahawks disappointing loss in the CAA quarterfinals.

When asked about his commitment to the program and to the city of Wilmington, Siddle said “This is a place where I consider home and a place where I hope to be for a long time. Obviously, we made a big commitment to come back and sign up for five more years, so I couldn’t be more grateful and blessed and humbled to be the coach here.”

Siddle also spoke about his close relationship with UNCW Athletic Director Mike Oblinger, referring to him as someone he sees as a brother.

WWAY reached out to UNCW on Friday, March 6 for confirmation, and the Athletics Department did not have comment.

Siddle first joined the Seahawks as an assistant coach before the 2014 season, working under Head Coach Kevin Keatts.

During his time as an assistant, the Seahawks won three regular season championships, and two CAA championships.

Siddle would then depart from the university temporarily, to continue his work under Kevin Keatts at NC State University.

After three seasons in Raleigh, Siddle would return to the nest before the 2020 season began. This past season was his sixth season as head coach, eclipsing 20 or more wins in the last five.

The Seahawks finished the 2025-2026 regular season with a 26-5 record, and an outright regular season championship.
