Lake Waccamaw woman killed in single-vehicle crash in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A Lake Waccamaw woman died Sunday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash in Whiteville, according to the Whiteville Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 2:59 p.m. March 15 at the intersection of South Franklin Street and Caldis Street.

Investigators said a silver Kia Rondo was heading south on South Franklin Street at a high rate of speed when it entered a curve. With the roadway wet at the time, the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed.

The driver, identified as 65-year-old Evelyn Young Pittman of Lake Waccamaw, was found at the scene and pronounced dead.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
