CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Carolina Beach says the contractor working on the 2026 beach nourishment project plans to utilize the inlet for all sand needs, including all of Kure Beach.

According to a news release, equipment engines have been working harder to pump sand further.

Moving forward with the project, the Town of Carolina Beach says the turbo on one of the engines needs replacing.

Once accomplished, the town says this will drastically reduce the black smoke many have recently reported seeing.

While work on the equipment is being performed, some delays in accessing Freeman Park will occur Friday, March 20.

Plans are to open access on and off Freeman Park at the top and bottom of each hour.
