WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 33-year-old man has been charged after police say he assaulted a woman and was subsequently stabbed by another individual Thursday afternoon.

Around 4:22 p.m., officers with the Wilmington Police Department responded to the 4100 block of Market Street for reports of an injured man. When first responders arrived, they found the man suffering from a stab wound.

Investigators later determined the incident began in a wooded area near the 4500 block of Birchwood Drive, where the injured man, identified as Joseph Greene, was the primary aggressor. Police say Greene was stabbed by another man after assaulting a woman.

Greene was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment and has since been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The investigation remains ongoing. A photo of Greene is not available at this time.
