Sunny Point Military Ocean Terminal conducting controlled burns in Kure Beach

KURE BEACH, N.C. (WWAY) — The Sunny Point Military Ocean Terminal is conducting a series of controlled burns today.

The burning began at 9 a.m. and will end around 3 p.m.

They expect to burn approximately 102 acres of land today, across two different zones. If time and conditions allow, a third zone will be subjected to a controlled burn as well.

Residents and individuals in the area should expect smoke in the area all day, and potentially lingering into tomorrow.
