Sirens to be tested near Brunswick Nuclear Plant on April 1

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Duke Energy and local officials will test outdoor warning sirens around the Brunswick Nuclear Plant on Wednesday, April 1.
The test is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., with sirens sounding for five to 30 seconds to ensure they are working properly. Officials say anyone who hears a siren during the scheduled test does not need to take action.
Some sirens may be tested more than once, and additional testing could take place after 11 a.m. following maintenance.
Duke Energy maintains a network of 38 sirens within a 10-mile radius of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.
Testing is conducted in coordination with emergency management officials in Brunswick and New Hanover counties, who are responsible for sounding the sirens.
