WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Children’s Museum of Wilmington (CMoW) will welcome a special guest this weekend as its annual Enchanted Character Walk fundraiser returns Saturday, March 28, at the New Hanover County Arboretum.

Margaret Kerry, the live-action reference model for Tinker Bell in Disney’s 1953 animated film Peter Pan, is set to attend the sold-out event, where she will meet local children and families. The appearance adds a touch of Hollywood history to one of the museum’s signature fundraising efforts.

The opportunity came together after CMoW Director of Development Patti Erkes discovered Kerry had retired to the Wilmington area.

“I could not imagine a better fit than having the original Tinker Bell on the most enchanting day of the year,” Erkes said. “When I spoke with her, she was just the most delightful person. I could feel the pixie dust through the phone.”

Kerry said she is excited to participate and is looking forward to connecting with attendees, adding that she “felt like she needed to be there.”

The Enchanted Character Walk gives young children the chance to meet favorite characters, including princesses and superheroes, while raising funds to support the museum’s mission of providing hands-on educational experiences. Proceeds help expand access to programs and exhibits for children across the community.

Although tickets for this year’s event are sold out, organizers say community members can still support the Children’s Museum of Wilmington by learning more about its programs and initiatives online.
