Welcome Home Angel to celebrate Reveal Day with support from CFCC design students

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Welcome Home Angel will host a special Reveal Day on April 2 for Ava Grace, a 10-year-old Wilmington girl whose home has been transformed to better support her medical, educational and daily living needs.
Ava Grace was born at just 25 weeks, weighing one pound, and spent 253 days in the NICU. She continues to face complex medical challenges, including hydrocephalus requiring a VP shunt. She is immunocompromised and receives homebound instruction along with occupational, physical and speech therapy.
The project focuses on creating a more functional and supportive home environment by converting the family’s dining area into a dedicated learning and therapy space. Upgrades include a desk area, therapy equipment, accessibility features and a privacy divider. Ava Grace will also receive a SMART Board donated by SMART Technologies to support her education and therapy at home.
Additional improvements include adaptive bathroom equipment to better meet her mobility needs, as well as a dual recliner chair for her mother, who undergoes at-home dialysis treatments while awaiting a kidney transplant. The space is designed to provide a safe, stable environment for treatment while allowing Ava Grace to remain close by.
The project was completed in partnership with students from Cape Fear Community College, who selected Ava Grace’s home for their interior design capstone project and worked alongside the nonprofit and family to create a space tailored to her needs.
Reveal Day is scheduled for 4 p.m. on April 2 at the family’s home in Wilmington.
