UNCW knocks off Charleston 5-2

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — UNCW softball picked up a series-opening win at home Friday against rival Charleston 5-2.

After falling 2-1 in the 4th, the Seahawks responded in the bottom of the frame with RBI hits from Cassidy Relay and Emily Whitwell. Both registered three hits with the latter driving in two runs, including the eventual game-winner.

“We’re ready to sweep,” Whitwell said. “We’re excited for it. We have prepared. We’ve had a lot of conversations this week just about being ready. I just knew our team was confident and we had an amazing time. I feel like the emotions were high, but they were all good.”
