Piedmont Natural Gas project to close portions of Highway 210, Peanut Road in Hampstead

HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (WWAY) — Construction on a natural gas delivery system in Hampstead is expected to cause lane closures along portions of N.C. Highway 210 and Peanut Road for up to 10 weeks, according to Piedmont Natural Gas.

Piedmont Natural Gas said work began March 23 and is scheduled to continue for approximately eight to 10 weeks, weather permitting. Normal traffic patterns are expected to resume no later than June 15.

The project will require closure of the eastbound lane of N.C. Highway 210 from Holiday Drive past Lea Crest Lane, as well as the eastbound lane of Peanut Road from Lea Crest Lane to Pansy Lane.

Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday in an effort to limit disruptions during peak travel times. Piedmont Natural Gas said signage will be posted to guide drivers along detour routes, though no significant traffic delays are anticipated.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area, particularly during active work hours. Local traffic will still be permitted.

The work is part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance, which the company said is necessary to ensure safe and reliable natural gas service. Construction will be carried out by Piedmont Natural Gas personnel and licensed contractors.

Piedmont Natural Gas is a subsidiary of Duke Energy and provides natural gas service to more than 1 million customers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
