Burgaw’s Mojotone named NC Exporter of the Year
BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Burgaw-based Mojotone as North Carolina’s Exporter of the Year, recognizing the company’s impact on international trade and continued growth.
Mojotone manufactures components for electric guitars, amplifiers, and sound systems, and builds amplifier cabinets for more than 100 companies worldwide. The honor places the company among the top small businesses in the state, contributing to global commerce.
Chief Executive Officer Michael McWhorter said his passion for music helped shape the business, which he founded 26 years ago after beginning to play guitar in the fifth grade.
“Everybody always says it, but to follow your passion,” McWhorter said. “I was lucky enough to do that and lucky enough that it worked out — that I surrounded myself with positive people and people that were smarter than me … that helped me make that dream come true.”
Mojotone has worked with well-known artists including Rush, Green Day, and ZZ Top.
The recognition comes ahead of National Small Business Week, scheduled for May 3–9, which highlights the role of small businesses in local communities and the broader U.S. economy.
