WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A popular Wilmington bar says it will close its doors later this month as a long-planned road project moves forward.

Greenfield Lake Yacht Club, which was previously known as The Dubliner, announced on social media that April will be its final month at its Carolina Beach Road location.

In a Facebook post, the business said the building at 1756 Carolina Beach Road is set to be demolished as part of a North Carolina Department of Transportation project, forcing the business to close or relocate.

“April will be our last month y’all. Come help us go out with style and finish all the booze in the building,” the post reads.

The closure comes after years of uncertainty tied to the NCDOT widening project along Carolina Beach Road and South Front Street.

WWAY previously reported in 2019 that the Dubliner was among several businesses expected to be purchased and potentially demolished to make way for the project.

Plans called for seven properties, including the Dubliner, to be acquired as part of efforts to widen the roadway and improve traffic flow at a busy Wilmington intersection.

Over the years, the project has been delayed multiple times. In 2021, WWAY reported construction would not begin until at least 2029, temporarily sparing affected businesses.

Now, the bar says those long-discussed plans are becoming reality.

Owners, who bought the Dubliner a few years ago and renamed it Greenfield Lake Yacht Club, say they have been searching for a new home.

“We have been looking for a new location but haven’t had any luck — yet,” the post states.

The business plans to continue normal operations through April, including live music and events, leading up to a final night on Sunday, April 26.

“Please come join us as we celebrate our last month at your favorite watering hole,” the post reads. “It is gonna be business as usual over the next four weeks.”

The bar has long been a staple near Greenfield Lake, known for its live music, late-night events, and loyal local following.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make the last few years a dream come true for us… without our patrons, none of this would have been possible,” the post reads.
