WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Monday marked the start of the Wilmington Classic baseball tournament, during which New Hanover lost their opener at home to Sun Valley 5-4.

After going down 4-1 in the 3rd inning, the Wildcats managed to tie it up in the 5th. That happened when an Alder Stumpf knocked an infield hit with the bases loaded. The visitors tried to take the force out at home plate, but the throw went wide. Both Camden Croom and Colton Creech managed to score.

It stayed that way until the 7th, where Sun Valley’s Tristan Duke was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the last and deciding run of the game.
