Annual Master Gardener plant sale returns to New Hanover County Arboretum next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gardeners and plant lovers can explore thousands of plant varieties during the 39th annual plant sale hosted by the Master Gardener Volunteer Association.
The four-day event will take place April 16–19 at the New Hanover County Arboretum and N.C. Cooperative Extension. Hours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
This year’s sale will feature more than 8,000 plants, including annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, azaleas, Japanese maples, and shrubs. Organizers say a strong emphasis will be placed on native plants that support local wildlife while enhancing home landscapes.
In addition to plant shopping, visitors can take part in a free seed exchange at the Cooperative Extension’s Plant Clinic, browse houseplants from the Ability Garden, and attend an expert talk on Japanese maple care and pruning.
Master Gardener volunteers and Extension staff will be on hand to provide advice and assist with plant selection and transport. Due to limited parking and carts, attendees are encouraged to carpool and bring their own carts.
The arboretum will be closed April 13–15 in preparation for the sale. More information about the program is available on the arboretum’s website.
