Larry Strother, North Topsail Beach alderman dies

TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WWAY) — North Topsail Beach Alderman Larry Strother has died, the town announced Tuesday.
In a statement, town officials said Strother served for years as an advocate for maintaining and protecting the town’s shoreline. He held leadership roles with the Beach, Inlet and Sound Advisory Committee (BISAC) and the Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission (TISPC).
Officials said Strother focused much of his work on shoreline preservation, describing the coast as central to the town’s economy and identity.
“He will be remembered not only for his leadership and dedication but for his kindness, his steady presence, and his deep-rooted passion for the community,” the town said in a release.
No details about the cause of death or funeral arrangements were immediately released.
Town officials also expressed condolences to Strother’s family.
Under North Carolina General Statute § 160A-63, the town board will appoint someone to fill the vacant alderman seat until the next municipal election, when a successor will be elected.
Officials said additional information about the process will be released at a later time.
