WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will conduct a large-scale emergency training exercise this weekend on its campuses.

According to CFCC, the mass casualty and active shooter simulation will take place Saturday, April 25, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the college’s Downtown Campus and North Campus. The exercise is being held in conjunction with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

The training will involve multiple locations, including the N, A and S buildings on the downtown campus, as well as Union Station and areas on the North Campus.

Officials say the sidewalk along Front Street in front of the N, A and S buildings will be closed during the exercise to allow emergency responders to operate safely. No street closures are planned.

During the simulation, members of the public may hear simulated gunfire, see an increased law enforcement presence, and observe mock patients being transported between buildings.

CFCC says the exercise is designed to strengthen emergency preparedness and improve coordination among agencies while providing realistic training for students and first responders.
