Whats Happening across the Cape Fear this weekend

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — If you’re looking for a way to kick back and relax after the work week, there are plenty of fun activities for you to enjoy across the Cape Fear region this weekend.

In Burgaw the 47th annual Pender County Spring Festival will celebrate its community through family fun, live entertainment, and vendors. The events kick off with a street dance on Friday at Burgaw’s historic courthouse square at 6 p.m., with the event continuing Saturday morning from 9 to 4 in the afternoon.

Also happening Saturday The Blind Elephant in downtown Wilmington is calling on participants to place their bets for their annual Kentucky Derby party. The speakeasy will show the races at 3 p.m. and will have specialty juleps, fancy hats, and prizes for those who pick winning racehorses. Tickets are free for members and $10 for non-members, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Pasture Pals Equine Rescue in Clayton.

Finally, on Sunday Brunswick Beer and Cider will host Paws for a Cause in Leland for a fundraiser to help give shelter pets a second chance. Brunswick Beer and Cider will be donating 11% of sales from their blonde Belgian ale, renamed “Paws and Tails,” for the entire month of May. The band Nowcat will be performing music at the event from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Whether you’re placing your bets at the race tracks, celebrating your community and enjoying some family-friendly fun, or helping out our furry friends, those are just a few ways you can get out and about this weekend.
