Brunswick Community College celebrates 47th commencement ceremony

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick Community College celebrated student achievement and academic success during its 47th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 8, honoring hundreds of graduates across a wide range of academic and workforce development programs.
Held at Odell Williamson Auditorium, the ceremony recognized approximately 548 graduates who collectively earned 693 degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
Graduates represented a variety of programs, including Associate in Arts, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees, along with numerous diploma and certificate pathways designed to prepare students for careers and continued education.
Among those honored were students from Brunswick County Early College High School and Career & College Promise, the college’s dual enrollment program that allows high school students to earn college credits while completing their secondary education.
In addition to its graduating class, Brunswick Community College awarded more than 1,300 industry-recognized credentials during the 2025–2026 academic year through its Continuing Education and Workforce Development programs. College officials say the credentials reflect BCC’s ongoing investment in workforce readiness, skilled trades training, and lifelong learning opportunities across the region.
Gene Smith presided over the ceremony and praised graduates for their dedication and perseverance throughout their academic journeys. “Commencement is one of the most meaningful celebrations of the year because it represents transformation, determination, and possibility,” Smith said. “Our graduates have worked hard to reach this milestone, and we are incredibly proud to see them continue their education, enter the workforce, launch businesses, and make a positive impact in their communities.”
College officials say BCC remains focused on expanding educational opportunities and strengthening workforce partnerships throughout Brunswick County and the surrounding region.
