Leland woman wins $100,000 top prize on scratch-off ticket

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County woman claimed a $100,000 top prize after purchasing a scratch-off lottery ticket in Leland, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Lottery officials said You Zhu of Leland bought the winning $100,000 Cash Payday ticket at the Walmart on New Pointe Boulevard.
Zhu claimed her prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she received $72,018, according to the lottery.
The $30 scratch-off game launched in March with 80 top prizes of $100,000. Lottery officials said 68 top prizes remain unclaimed.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, Brunswick County schools received $6.3 million in lottery funding last year.
