Brunswick County Schools approves virtual academy for 2026-27 school year
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Schools has approved the launch of Brunswick Virtual Academy for the 2026-27 school year.
The district said Brunswick Virtual Academy, also known as BVA, will serve students in grades 1-12 who thrive in a digital learning environment. Instruction will primarily take place online through a combination of live teaching and independent coursework.
According to the district, the academy is designed to provide families with another educational option while keeping students connected to Brunswick County Schools.
To qualify for the program, students must live in Brunswick County and must have been enrolled outside of Brunswick County Schools during the 2025-26 school year. Eligible students include those enrolled in homeschool, private school or charter school programs. Current Brunswick County Schools students are not eligible at this time.
District leaders said middle and high school students will be prioritized during the first year of implementation. Elementary students may apply, but acceptance will depend on interest levels and staffing availability.
Families interested in learning more about the program can attend upcoming community information meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for May 19 at The COAST, located at 1109 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia. Sessions will begin at 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
Additional meetings are planned for May 26, May 27 and May 28 at locations across the county.
